The Saratoga Cross Country Classic 5k is open to all athletes. It is also designated as the last of four USATF Adirondack Trail Grand Prix races. It is a USATF Sanctioned event.
Never run cross country before? That's OK...the XC Classic is NOT a technical trail run. This is the same legendary course used by Saratoga Springs XC and for other Section 2 cross country events. It has also been used as the USATF National 5k XC Championship multiple times, most recently in 2015.
Starting in the open grass field just north of the Hall of Springs, the course winds through the beautiful Spa State Park (19 Roosevelt Drive, 12866). The surface is a combination of grass, asphalt, macadam, gravel and dirt. The vast majority of the footing is quite even. Even the most novice runners find this course to be very unique and enjoyable event!
Here is a link to the video tour of the 5k course.
For 2018, we will be back to the original course (no Peerless Pool detour). Updated video coming.
Course preview runs can be scheduled by contacting the race director at email@example.com
5k - Due to the construction work on the Peerless Pool, the course was altered for 2017. For 2018, we are back to the original course. Updated course maps coming soon.
2k - No changes for 2018. In 2017, the old 2k was more like 2.4k so it was shortened. It no longer goes up Ferndell Hill like the 3k/5k. See maps for change details (old course labeled 1.47, new course 1.21).
Parking is ample with large lots on either side of the start/finish area. The west lot is accessible from the Avenue of the Pines near the Auto Museum entrance. The east lot is off Roosevelt Drive just north of the Spa Little Theater.
The Park Police do not allow cars to be parked anywhere along the park roads or on the grassy areas unless specifically designated as such. Please use the parking lots described above.
